Upon securing the land of Avalon Springs in 2005, the Avalon team went to work researching the land: the climate, the flood history, the natural history and resources, water flows and testing, soils testing, resident wildlife and native plant species. This research was documented in the Permaculture Master Plan created in partnership with Exos Design in 2007.
The Master Plan includes two studies. The Assessment Report details all pertinent data about the land, to be used in planning intelligent design of the resort, the fractional ecovillage homes, and the conference and educational facilities.
The Concept Report built upon this information to sketch out the planned species list for landscaping, the general placement and design of buildings and features, and the overall flow and boundaries of development.
