Historical Resort: Howard Hot Springs

Avalon Springs was previously known as Howard Hot Springs, and operated as a health resort from the late 1800s until 1970.  Back in the early 1900s, the Clearlake area was highly popular for the abundant mineral springs, valued for their healing properties.  A daily stagecoach carried people up from Vallejo where the ferry brought them across the bay from San Francisco.  Howard Hot Springs was one of several popular resorts in this area.

Existing Buildings

Several buildings are in good shape, thanks to the meticulous care of previous owner, Elio Giusti, who grew up at the resort with his family who managed the place during the last years of its operation, and eventually became the owner of the land.

The historic lodge is home to the kitchen, dining area, game room, lobby, and eight guestrooms upstairs.  Upon renovation, this will continue to serve as the home of the dining facilities, with offices and a lending library upstairs.
